Healthy Cornwall is committed to supporting the health and well‐being of the population of Cornwall.
Through the delivery of face to face training we aim to increase the skills, knowledge and understanding that underpin and encourage healthier lifestyle choices across the county and beyond.
Whether you want to develop your own understanding or that of your community or organisation, our training team has identified key areas of health promotion and developed relevant training that meets the needs of those who live and work here.

Making Every Contact Count
Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is an approach to improving health and reducing health inequalities developed by the NHS and local government. It is a way of encouraging and helping people to make healthier choices and to achieve positive long-term behaviour change.
The aim of this training is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding to “Make Every Contact Count” in their day to day life and work, offering practical support to individuals in their efforts to attain a healthier lifestyle.
Students will learn how effective communication can support behaviour change, how to promote key health messages and use brief intervention and motivational interviewing techniques to move through the cycle of change.
Summary of Learning Outcomes:
Recognise how effective communication supports the delivery of health messages
Understand the 'cycle of behaviour change' model
Identify key health messages and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices
Know how to deliver brief advice and brief interventions
Understand basic motivational interviewing techniques
Healthy Cornwall have a flexible approach and are able to adapt this workshop depending on the audience. We can offer a condensed version, out of hours training is available and for those organisations who wish to offer MECC in house we offer 'Train the Trainer'. MECC is available as an e-learning option and this is a good source of general information however does not offer the opportunity for direct practice at carrying out MECC which the face to face training does offer.
