Our first SUGAR SMART secondary school!

Date: 19th December 2018

Richard Lander School in Truro have become the first secondary school in Cornwall to gain a SUGAR SMART certificate.

In order to gain the certificate, Richard Lander School demonstrated the ways they have worked in their school community to address the five key areas to becoming SUGAR SMART:

  • Attending SUGAR SMART training
  • Promoting healthy lunches and snacks
  • Encouraging water consumption
  • Reconsidering tuck shop and/or vending machine options
  • Adopting a whole school approach

The school focused on encouraging students to swap their fizzy drinks, milkshakes and energy drinks for water in the knowledge that one simple change could make a massive difference. Students were encouraged to discuss the key issues surrounding sugar in tutor time and received an informative SUGAR SMART assembly. We were really impressed by the way the student council at Richard Lander have been involved in discussing ways to be more SUGAR SMART too.

Congratulations Richard Lander School - blazing a trail for secondary schools across the county!
