Healthy Weight Adults Programme

The Healthy Weight Adults Programme is our 10-week weight management programme for people aged 18 years and over and are above a healthy weight.

Referral Criteria:

The referred adult MUST be:

  • 18 years or above
  • Have a BMI above 25
  • Give their consent for referral to Cornwall Healthy Weight
  • Motivated and ready to change
  • Can commit to a 12-week programme and is ready to make healthier lifestyle choices

Please Note: If this adult has a BMI of >40 or >35 with co-morbidities please assess whether this person needs to be referred to The Royal Cornwall Hospital Bariatric, Obesity and Diabetes Surgery Service, which helps patients lose weight, sustain their weight loss and improve obesity-related medical conditions through surgical intervention.


This is a 10-week educational lifestyle programme that encourages positive behaviour change, individuals are required to attend once a week, for up to two hours. The content of these sessions include:

  • Learning about nutrition, food groups, and eating a balanced and healthy diet
  • How to read and interpret food labels and importance of making healthier food choices
  • Information on body types and how energy intake and expenditure affects the body
  • Low intensity exercises, adapted to suit the individual to become more active
  • Cooking sessions to increase cooking skills and cooking on a budget
  • Fun and interactive sessions to help increase confidence and self esteem

Exclusion Criteria for Exercise: 

Please note that the Healthy Weight Adults programme includes a physical activity component. Unfortunately we are unable to accept referrals for adults who have any of the exclusions listed below:

  • Adults with a BMI >40 OR >35 with comorbidities
  • Unstable angina
  • Resting BP - Systolic BP >180 mmHg and/or Diastolic BP >110 mmHg
  • Resting tachycardia >100bpm
  • Uncontrolled atrial or ventricular arrhythmias
  • Recent complicated Myocardial Infarction and/or awaiting further investigation
  • Unstable or acute heart failure
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Acute systemic disease such as cancers
  • Neuromuscular, musculoskeletal or rheumatoid disorders that are exacerbated by exercise
  • Unmanaged pain
  • Clients with an unstable psychiatric disorder


  • Referrals accepted from primary care and all healthcare professionals. 
  • Self referrals accepted from eligible individuals across Cornwall
