Big Park Day 2015
The first Big Park Day took place at Boscawen Park in Truro in July 2015. Everyone had great fun taking part in a range of activities including easy cricket, football, art and music therapy, archery, boules, table tennis, and kite flying. A delicious cream tea was served by Sanjay Kumar and volunteers from Volunteer Cornwall.
Adrian Quest, Health Promotion Liaison for Learning Disabilities said ‘The Big Park Day is about helping people with learning disabilities and or autistic spectrum conditions to get active and get the most out of Cornwall’s parks and open spaces.’
Councillor Jim McKenna, Cornwall Council Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Care, commented: ‘Big Park Day is a great initiative and I am grateful that so many individuals and organisations are willing to give their time and expertise. With their help, we are able to give more people with learning disabilities the chance to enjoy the great outdoors that many of us take for granted.’
Health Promotion Service would like to thank the other organisers and supporters of the event; Peninsula Community Health, Cornwall Partnership Foundation Trust, Cornwall Music Therapy Trust, Volunteer Cornwall, Cornwall Council and Special Olympics Cornwall have teamed up to put on a free day of activities for people with learning disabilities.
