Making Every Contact Count

Making every contact count (MECC) is an approach to improving health and reducing health inequalities developed by the NHS and local government. It is a way of encouraging and helping people to make healthier choices and to achieve positive long-term behaviour change.

The aim of this training is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding to “Make Every Contact Count” in their day to day work, offering practical support to individuals in their efforts to attain a healthier lifestyle.

Students will learn how effective communication can support behaviour change, how to promote key health messages and use brief intervention and motivational interviewing techniques to move through the cycle of change.

Summary of Learning Outcomes:

  1. Recognise how effective communication supports the delivery of health messages.

  2. Understand the cycle of behaviour change model

  3. Identify key health messages and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices

  4. Know how to deliver brief advice and brief interventions.

  5. Understand basic motivational interviewing techniques

Mental Health First Aid - One Day (First Aid Champion)

The one day mental health awareness and skills course qualifies you as a workplace MHFA Champion.

Workplace MHFA Champions have: 

  • An understanding of common mental health issues  

  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness

  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health 

  • Skills to support positive well-being.

Through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions, the course is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan.

You must be 16+ to attend this course and the skills learnt are most appropriate for the workplace.

Cost: £20 This amount covers the cost of participant workbooks .The actual training delivery is free of charge.

ASIST

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training:

Please note: that this is a 2 day training.

ASIST teaches verbal First Aid skills to anyone who may come into contact with a person having thoughts of suicide. It gives an introduction to the most widely used Suicide Intervention Model in the world, a model which is applicable in all situations requiring help.

 

After taking ASIST, you will be better able to:

 

  • Be suicide alert - identify people who have thoughts of suicide
  • Understand the reasons behind thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living
  • Assess risk and safety - develop a plan to increase the safety of the person at risk of suicide
  • Recognise invitations for help
  • Recognise potential barriers of seeking help
  • Offer support – recognise other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
  • Effectively apply a suicide intervention model
  • Link people with community resources

Cost: £25 

Please be aware that there is a fee of £25 for cancellation within 7 days of the start of the course and £50 for anyone who fails to attend or gives less than 24 hours notice

ASIST teaches verbal First Aid skills to anyone who may come into contact with a person having thoughts of suicide. It gives an introduction to the most widely used Suicide Intervention Model in the world, a model which is applicable in all situations requiring help.

 

After taking ASIST, you will be better able to:

 

  • Be suicide alert - identify people who have thoughts of suicide
  • Understand the reasons behind thoughts of suicide and the reasons for living
  • Assess risk and safety - develop a plan to increase the safety of the person at risk of suicide
  • Recognise invitations for help
  • Recognise potential barriers of seeking help
  • Offer support – recognise other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care
  • Effectively apply a suicide intervention model
  • Link people with community resources

Cost: £25 

Please be aware that there is a fee of £25 for cancellation within 7 days of the start of the course and £50 for anyone who fails to attend or gives less than 24 hours notice
