Allow regular breaks for movement within working hours:

  • Encourage staff to add reminders/alarms to calendars or phones to remind them to get up regularly; for example, for 5 minutes every hour.
  • Ensure those working from home are reminded to take breaks for movement and lunchtime

Build in time for movement between meetings:

  • Allow time at the end of meetings for example an hour meeting is 50 minutes, leaving 10 minutes for activity before another meeting begins etc
  • Break up meetings of longer lengths by including planned time for movement
  • Use this time to trial new activities such as chair yoga, stretching, walking, banded movements etc.

Run walking groups:

  • Run organised group walks at lunchtime and breaks
  • Train individuals to be walk leaders
  • Are there local walking groups that you could join regularly (once a week, once a month etc)
  • Could walking meetings be implemented? When talking on the phone or meeting in person

Run yoga/activity sessions for staff at lunchtimes or during breaks:

  • Is there a member of staff trained in yoga?
  • Look into local providers that may perform short taster sessions on a variety of activities
  • Play YouTube follow along videos
  • Promote Park Yoga to those looking to take part out of work time
