Implement an action plan to reduce stress in the workplace, including a stress policy and provide clear guidance of your stress management pathway:

  • Take positive actions to build a culture that champions good mental health provides greater understanding of how to help those who need more support.

  • Provide options for flexible work hours to help your team to better balance their work and personal lives.

Ensure policies are relevant to your staff population, addressing the need of the staff in your workplace, e.g. smoking/menopause/ weight/ alcohol/ men’s health:

  • Policies are most effective when co-produced policies with staff, governors and parents/carers.

  • Think about how it can be effectively implemented and routinely reviewed through a process of consultation.

Start an annual staff wellbeing survey. Record a baseline snapshot of employee wellbeing, then at least one other snapshot within a 12 -month period:

  • Seeking a baseline snapshot of employee wellbeing is a crucial step in understanding and improving the overall health and satisfaction of a school workforce. It allows you to see where your workforce stands in terms of job satisfaction, stress levels, work-life balance, and other well-being indicators.

  • You can implement targeted interventions to address the most pressing issues and ensure resources will be useful.

Train at least one member of staff in Mental Health First Aid and Youth Mental Health First Aid:
  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

  • Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to assist you in supporting young people ages 8-18 years.
